Acrobatic Frenchman Sylvaine Quimene rocked his way to victory at the 14th Air Guitar World Championship in Oulu in northern Finland on Friday (August 21).

More than 5,000 people gathered at an outdoor venue to watch Quimene, aka 'Gunther Love', win a narrow victory over last year's winner Craig Billmeier from the United States.

The message of the competition was: 'World peace - while you are rocking your air guitar your hand can't hold a gun.' Contestants from all over the globe including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Romania flew in for the special event.

Two female and 19 male competitors made it through to the final performing a rock song of their own choice.

And, good news for drumming enthusiasts: organisers are thinking about introducing a competition for air drummers.
