How To Prevent Credit Card Fraud

This film will help you avoid becoming a victim of credit card fraud - and has been prepared following police and Home Office guidelines. Follow Videojug's advise to prevent credit card fraud!

How to prevent credit card fraud
Step 1:
sign your card
As soon as you get your card, even if it's Chip and Pin, make sure you sign the back of it. This will make it harder for someone else to use it.
Step 2:
keep your pin safe
If you can remember it, don't write it down. If you do decided to write it down, keep it in a separate place - not in your wallet
Step 3:
keep it secret
Don't tell anyone your PIN - even if someone calls and claims to be from your bank. Your real bank would never call and ask you for this information.
Step 4:
check your statements
As soon as you receive your bank or credit card statements read them carefully and make sure that there are no unusual payments or withdrawals. If there are, call your bank immediately.
Step 5:
destroy old statements
Keep your statements in safe place for at least a year in case you need to refer to them. Then discard them securely.
Top tip: burning is often the most effective way of destroying papers but if you plan to shred them do so with a cross shredder. If the shredded document is found these are much harder to piece together again.
Step 6:
banking online
Bank websites have high levels of security and are generally very safe. But make sure you always access the banks' site by typing the address into your browser. Don't follow a link sent in an email as this could lead to phoney site. If you receive an email claiming to be from the bank and asking for your passwords or PIN , don't respond. Your real bank would never ask your for this information.
Step 7:
Shopping online
Shopping online can be more risky than shopping in person, so watch Videojug 'How to shop securely online' for more information about avoiding credit card fraud.
Stick to these guidelines for peace of mind.
