How to cast off: Expert knitter Rachel Ong shows you how to link your last row of stitches to make a neat edge that won't unravel when knitting, also known as casting off.
Step 1:
You will need
* A large pair of knitting needles
* A large weight pure wool yarn.
* A pair of scissors
Step 2:
Casting off with a knitting needle
Knit the first two stitches from the left needle onto the right needle.
Then push the tip of the left needle into the first stitch that you made on the right needle.
Lift the first stitch over the second stitch and drop it off the right needle.
Knit another stitch from the left needle and do the same again.
Do this with each stitch until there are no stitches on the left needle and just one stitch on the right needle.
Cut the yarn, leaving a 6 inch end.
With your fingers, gently pull on the last stitch to make it a little bit bigger.
Then pull the end of the yarn all the way through the loop, take the needle out and pull the yarn tight.
You have now finished casting off!
Step 3:
Casting off with a crochet hook
Casting off with a crochet hook makes it easy to cope with slippery yarns or tight stitches.
First, hold the needle in your left hand.
Pick up the crochet hook with your right hand.
Slip the first stitch onto the hook.
Insert the hook into the next stitch, catch the yarn, and pull it through both stitches.
Pull the last loop off the needle.
Repeat to the last stitch.
Cut the yarn with some scissors.
Catch the yarn end and pull it through the last loop.

How To Knit The Knit Stitch
Expert knitter Rachel Ong shows you how to knit the knit stitch, which is the most basic stitch and should be preceded by our film How To Cast On.
You Will Need
* A large pair of knitting needles
* A smooth, large weight pure wool yarn.
Step 1:
Row one
Hold the needle with the cast-on stitches in your left hand and the other needle in your right hand.
Push the tip of the right needle into the first loop on the left needle, so that the right needle crosses behind the needle.
Make sure the yarn lies to the back of your needles.
Holding the yarn nice and tight in your right hand wrap it around the tip of the right needle, counter clockwise, so that it sits in between the two needles.
Start to gently pull the tip of the right needle back through the first loop towards you, bringing the yarn with it.
Slowly pull the right needle all the way through then bring the right needle up, so that it's on top of the left needle.
Don't pull too hard or you will pull the needle right out.
Carefully pull the new loop on the right needle to the tip of the left needle and let the old loop slide off.
The first knit stitch is now on the right needle.
Knit all the cast-on stitches in the same way.
When all the stitches are on your right needle, you have finished your first row of knitting.
Step 2:
Row two
Hold the needle that has all the stitches in your left hand.
You are now ready to start knitting your second row in exactly the same way as the first.
Knitting the knit stitch row after row produces what is otherwise known as the garter stitch.
Top Tip
Keep the yarn taught after each stitch, so that the loops are close to the needle but not so hard that you can't slide the needle into them.
You'll soon find that the movements flow into each other as you get used to it and begin to pick up speed.

In a world where fashion is so mass-produced, it can be hard sometimes to find a unique wardrobe. One of the best ways to add some originality to your look is to create it yourself.
You will need
* fake flower
* a pair of scissors
* blank pin or blank barrette
* hot-glue gun
* beads, crystals or sequins (optional)
Step 1:
Trim The Stem
With a pair of scissors, cut the stem off of the fake flower. You want to make sure to cut enough off so that you are now working with a flat surface.
Step 2:
Hot Glue
You'll need to let the glue heat up for a few minutes before working with it. After it's heated, put some glue on the base of the flower and press it against the base of a blank pin. Blank pins can be found at craft stores in the jewelry supply section. If you want something for your hair instead, glue the flower onto a plain barrette. Depending on the size of the pin or barrette you get, you may be able to fit more than one flower onto your new accessory. Let the glue dry for several hours before wearing.
Step 3:
Decorate
After the flower is attached to the pin or barrette, you can decorate your flower as desired. Use the hot glue gun for this as well. You can glue on sequins, beads or crystals to the fabric of the flower or to the remainder of the pin or barrette. Get creative and have fun with it! Let the glue dry again for a few hours before wearing.

Everyone has heard about emo hair, its pretty hard to avoid it when the internet is plastered in photo's uploaded by young emo's trying to share their individual images. But it's quite difficult to find any advice on how they achieve these gravity defying hair sculptures. Well here is an easy to follow guide for girls looking for an emo haircut.
There is no set emo appearance for girls, but you're gonna have to do something with that do, its totally like lame.
First you need to grow it it all out, so that the front and side parts cover a good portion of your face. Once its at a length your happy with you need to dye it all black to give you a clean canvas to work on.
Next up you need to think about straightening it to get an authentic emo look and to get it cut in several layers. Try getting longer layers from about half way down your head, and then short layers the rest of the way up.
Now you need to start styling it. Use a long lasting hold gel and shape your bangs to frame your face with your fringe coming down across one of your eyes.
Once your happy with the shape, blow dry your hair from below whilst the gel sets to give added volume to your layers.
Now you've got the shape you can think about adding other colours. Try a combination of pink and bleach blonde throughout the different layers to look something like this.
Finally you might want to accessorise your hair. Try a polka dot or leopard print hair band, or maybe a bow or even a butterfly clip.

Step 1:
You will need
* 50g of 100% cotton knitting yarn, small
* 4.5mm knitting needles
* A yarn needle
* A sewing needle and thread
* 1 half inch coordinating button
Step 2:
Casting on
Start by casting on 18 stitches.

Step 3:
Knitting the cover
To follow this pattern you will need to use the stockinette stitch consisting of one knitted row followed by one purled row and so on.
For more help on the stockinette stitch see our film 'How To Knit The Purl Stitch'.
Begin by stitching 80 rows of stockinette stitch. This will take quite a few hours or instead you can relax and do it slowly over a few days.
When you have finished, cast off.

When you have finished casting off, weave in your yarn ends using a large yarn needle.
Step 4:
Finishing off
To finish off your iPod cover you will need to sew the seams together.

With the right sides of your cover both of your seams together using the mattress or garter stitch.
Once this is done, turn the cover the right way round
Sew a decorative button onto the flap of the iPod cover.
Take a long length of sewing thread, knotted at one end and threaded through a sharp sewing needle.
Starting at the back of the fabric, pass the needle up and through one hole in the button then pass it back down through the other hole in the button.
Repeat until your button is secure.
Alternatively you can use your favourite broach to fasten your iPod cover.
You are now ready to listen to your iPod in style.

How To Iron A Shirt
Ironing a shirt properly is worth knowing how to do, and it's easy to learn. Just follow the steps in this short guide, and you'll never look crumpled again. Learn how to iron your shirt properly with the help of VideoJug.
Step 1:
You will need
* A steam iron
* An Ironing board
* A Freshly laundered shirt
* Some Distilled water
* A Spray bottle filled with water
* A Plastic bag
Step 2:
Iron your shirt
Ironing isn't that bad. If you do it properly it doesn't take as long as you think.
Step 3:
Put up your ironing board
Find a spot for your ironing board close enough to a power socket so that you will not be stretching the power cord. Make sure the ironing board is sturdy and set to a comfortable height for you.
Step 4:
The shirt
Iron your shirt before it's fully dried but after washing it. The creases will be easier to iron out and it's less likely to crease once you start wearing it.
If you've just thrown the shirt in the wardrobe and forgotten about it after it's been laundered you should moisten it again.
A good way to remoisten a shirt fully is to spray it with water, roll it up and place it inside a plastic bag. After an hour, the dampness will have penetrated the fabric.
Step 5:
Prepare the iron
If you've got a steam iron, fill it with water.
Distilled Water has had all the impurities removed from it. Using distilled water will avoid the inside blocking up with lime scale.
Plug in the iron.
The heat you use will depend on the material the shirt is made of. Check the label on the inside seam of your shirt to identify what temperature the iron should be set to. A 100% cotton shirt needs a high setting, cotton blends should have a medium setting and synthetic fibres should be ironed at a low temperature.
Adjust the temperature dial to the correct setting and allow it to heat up.
Don't leave an iron unsupervised, and make sure that it's on a non flammable surface.
Step 6:
Organise the pile of shirts
If you have lots of shirts to do, do them in order of the heat they need, starting with the shirts which need the coolest temperatures first.
Step 7:
Get ready
Unbutton the shirt, including the cuffs.
For dark colours and synthetic fabrics you should iron on the inside to stop it from becoming shiny.
Place the shirt on the ironing board.
You can iron in what ever order you like, but most people like to start at the top and work down. The collar and shoulders are quite tricky, so if you do them first, then you don't have to redo areas you've crumpled in the effort.
Have a spray bottle filled with water ready. Spray it on difficult creases to make them easier to iron.
Step 8:
Collar
Lay the collar flat on the ironing board, and iron the outside first. Turn the shirt around and fold the collar as you would if you were wearing it, and iron in the fold. In small places like the collar, it is sometimes easier to use just the tip of the iron
Step 9:
The shoulder yoke
Next do the shoulder yoke, this is the part which connects the collar to the back of the shirt.
Place the shoulder yoke over the narrow side of the ironing board and iron from the shoulder seam to the centre of the back. Turn the shirt round and iron the opposite shoulder.
Step 10:
Cuffs
Place the cuffs on the ironing board. iron the inside of the cuff first, then the outside.
Step 11:
Quick fix
If you're in a big hurry, or just lazy, and you will be wearing a jacket all day, you could just iron a little more of the front of the shirt, and be finished as no one will see the rest of it anyway.
Step 12:
Sleeves
However to do it properly you should now move onto the sleeves.
Use the seam as a guide to help you get the sleeve folded over as smoothly as possible before placing it down. Place the arm along the length of the ironing board, cuff open side first, and use the palm of your hand to flatten it out. Iron it and then turn it over and do the other side.
Once finished repeat with the other cuff and sleeve. Make sure that you are covering all the areas of where the sleeve meets the shoulder.
Step 13:
Front
The front and back are the easiest bits, just lay out one of the front panels on the wide end of the ironing board. If the shirt has a pocket on it, iron that first.
Iron the shirt slowly, don't iron in new creases. Make sure you go all the way to the seams. Then iron the area around the buttons.
When you've finished one side, do the other! Make sure your not crumpling the shirt anywhere else while you are doing this.
Step 14:
Back
Finally do the back. Open out the shirt fully so there is no material caught under the back. Spread half of the back of the shirt on the wide end of ironing board, and iron.
Then move the shirt down to iron the other half of the shirt.
Step 15:
Finish
Finish by re-ironing the collar.
Don't forget to switch your iron off, and let it cool down for a few minutes before putting it away.
Step 16:
Put it away
If you're not wearing the shirt straight away, hang it up on a good hanger so you don't re-crease it.
If you want to fold your shirt let it cool first. Button up the shirt down the front and button the cuffs too. Turn the shirt over, and straighten it out. Fold both of the sleeves back from halfway along the shoulders. Then fold the sleeves so they are neatly within the back of the shirt. Finally fold the back of the shirt up one third, and another third. Turn the shirt back around, and there you go!
