Help Control Bleeding from a Hand Cut. Here's some first aid tips on how to control bleeding from a cut to the palm of the hand, before seeking medical advice.

Step 1:
You will need

* disposable gloves
* sterile gauze pads
* roller bandage
* elevation sling
* safety pin

Step 2:
Make person comfortable
Sit them down with their injured hand resting on a table. This will help keep it immobilized while you bandage it.
Step 3:
Wash your hands thoroughly
Wash your hands thoroughly using soap and dry them. Put on a pair of disposable gloves if you have them.
Step 4:
Use a gauze pad
Next firmly press a clean gauze pad into the palm of the injured hand and ask the person to make a fist over it and squeeze together.
Step 5:
Use support of available hand
If the person finds it difficult to press hard, then get them to use their other hand to squeeze the injured one.
Step 6:
Apply roller bandage
To bandage the injured hand, ask the person to release their uninjured hand from their clenched fist and use this hand to now raise and support their arm.

Step 7:
Check circulation
Once you have finished bandaging, check the circulation of the injured limb by pressing on one of the nails or skin of the hand until it becomes pale. Then release, and if the colour does not come back within 2 to 3 seconds, the bandage is likely to be too tight. If the bandage is too tight, unroll and reapply allowing a little more slack. Any kind of injury may cause localized soft tissue swelling which could result in the bandage becoming increasingly tight against the skin. Re-check circulation every 10 minutes and reapply the bandage if necessary.
Step 8:
Raise the arm

Seek medical advice
